Day 1 • Arrival in Copenhagen
Welcome to Copenhagen! When you arrive at Kastrup Airport, you are picked up in a wheelchair accessible vehicle and taken to the Scandic Copenhagen hotel. After settling in and having time to relax we have a welcome dinner at the restaurant Cassiopeia near the hotel.
Day 2 • Copenhagen Sightseeing
After breakfast at our hotel, we embark on a 3-hours sightseeing tour of Copenhagen with our English-speaking guide. We travel in a private wheelchair accessible vehicle.
During the tour we visit the Amalienborg Palace, Christiansborg Palace (seat of the Danish Parliament), Hans Christian Andersen’s statue, Gefion Fountain, the old harbour of Nyhavn, the famous Little Mermaid and many other popular sights.
The last stop of the tour are the renowned Tivoli Gardens. Opened in 1843, they are the second oldest amusement park in the world. Apart from the various attractions, such as old-style roller coasters and carousels, there are many restaurants within the park. Do not forget to visit the pantomime theater and the concert halls. In the spring and summertime, the park is decorated with a multitude of flowers.
After the tour we have lunch at Paafuglen and have time to explore the park.
Day 3 • North Zealand
Today we explore the castles of North Zealand!
First we visit the Fredensborg Palace, which was built in 1722 and is now the Spring and Autumn residence of the Danish Queen.
Next we go into the Kronborg Castle, situated near the town of Helsingør (immortalized as Elsinore in Shakespeare’s Hamlet) on the extreme northeastern tip of Zealand. It is located at the narrowest point of the Øresund, the sound between Denmark and Sweden. In this part, the sound is only 4 km wide, hence the strategic importance of maintaining a sea fortress at this location. Kronborg Castle’s story dates back to a fortress, Krogen, built in the 1420s by the Danish king, Eric of Pomerania. For centuries it has been one of the most important Renaissance castles in Northern Europe and it was added to UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites list in 2000.
Afterwards we head to the M/S Maritime Museum of Denmark. This maritime museum tells the story of Denmark as one of the world’s leading sea-faring nations, in an evocative and dramatic way, within an innovative architectural setting.
On our way back to the hotel, we drive south along the Danish Riviera, passing through small villages, fashionable resorts and some exclusive residential areas.
Day 4 • Norwegian Cruise Begins
After breakfast at the hotel we drive to the pier to board the Royal Caribbean cruise ship for our 7 nights Norwegian cruise. Traveling in style and comfort, this journey will take us to some of the most beautiful scenery along Norway’s famed west coast. It has it all: charming small villages nestled in deep fjords, dramatic waterfalls, colorful farmers’s markets and unique cultural events.
Day 5 • Day at Sea
We spend the day at sea traveling to Geiranger, Norway. While we are cruising there are a lot of fun things to do on the ship! We can spend the day by the pool, head to the gym or book a service at the spa. There are many classes we may sign up for to learn something new, or we can be entertained by live performances with showtimes throughout the day.
Day 6 • Geiranger
We disembark the ship and set foot in Norway! We experience Geirangerford’s impressive mountains, cascading waterfalls and farms sitting on steep hillsides, drive to the tiny village of Geiranger through Flydal Valley and to Lake Djupvatn, enjoy a magnificent panorama of mountains, glaciers, and waterfalls from the summit of Mount Dalsnibba. We see exciting exhibitions of nature, culture and history at the Norwegian Fjord Center.
Day 7 • Bergen
We enjoy a guided tour of the city, including a visit to the famous Fish and Flower Market, the Old Bryggen Harbour with its gabled packinghouses, the popular Hanseatic Quarter and the ancient Maria Church.
Day 8 • Stavanger
We get close to Stavanger’s history, from the time of Vikings to what the city is today, the oil capital of Norway. Our three-hour tour includes a photo stop at the Three Swords monument, symbolizing the unification of Norway. We continue through the old fishing village Tananger, also once a pirates’ haven, and pass Sola Beach. At the Norwegian Petroleum Museum, we see how oil and gas are created, discovered and produced through engaging, interactive exhibits.
Day 9 • Kristiansand
The “Capital of Southern Norway” is a fitting place for our last stop before returning to Copenhagen. Known for its inviting old town and striking modern art center, it is a popular destination for Scandinavian travelers. We do as the locals and enjoy lunch in town, but not before visiting one of most unique museum in the region: The Cannon Museum.
Day 10 • Day at Sea
We spend the day at sea, sailing at the a relax pace back toward Copenhagen. This is the opportunity to take advantage of the amenities and many activities offered on the ship ... or just to order a drink, sit under a blanket on deck and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
Day 11 • Return to Copenhagen and Sail to Oslo
We arrive back in Copenhagen and have time for an excursion and lunch. In the evening, we embark on the DFDS Crown Seaways for an overnight cruise to Oslo.
Day 12 • Oslo Sightseeing
We wake up and enjoy breakfast on board while we sail along the enchanting Oslo Fjord. We cruise past many islands and the fortress Oscarsborg at the narrowest location of the fjord.
After breakfast we meet with our English speaking guide and begin our tour of Oslo. During our panoramic city tour we pass along the Royal castle, the City hall, the Parliament building (Stortinget), the Opera House, the Akershus Fortress, the Viking Ship Museum and many other popular sites.
Afterwards we drive to the famous Vigeland sculpture park and enjoy a walk through the public park, which is the world’s largest sculpture park made by a single artist. The unique sculpture park is Gustav Vigeland’s lifework with more than 200 sculptures in bronze, granite and wrought iron. Vigeland was also in charge of the design and architectural layout of the Vigeland park which was mainly completed between 1939 and 1949. Most of the sculptures are placed in five units along a 850 meter long axis: the Main gate, the Bridge with the Children’s playground, the Fountain, the Monolith plateau and the Wheel of Life.
The last stop is at the Holmenkollen Ski jump. The original ski jump was built in 1892 and renovated for the 1952 Olympic Winter Games, but the old ski jump was demolished and a brand new one was constructed for the 2011 World Ski Championships. On clear days we also have a beautiful view of Oslo and the fjord from the Holmenkollen hill.
After our last stop we are taken to our accommodations in Oslo, Hotel Scandic Grensen.
Day 13 • Oslo
Today we take an excursion to Hadeland Glassverk. We drive through the western suburbs of Oslo and see farmland, forests and lakes. We drive along the Tyrifjord, one of the deepest lakes in Norway, towards Hønefoss and through the Ringerike District, Norway’s breadbasket.
At Hadeland Glassverk we learn about the production of glass from the 1800’s to the present day. We get a close up view of how glass is blown and get to blow our own glass at Norway’s largest glass museum. We may shop for unique crystal and porcelain at fantastic prices.
Hadeland Glassverk is a small, charming village that offers a range of exciting adventures. The museum has nine shops and three eateries, all located in historical buildings. We see Norway´s largest and most attractive factory outlet for glass and china, with unique products that can not be found anywhere else.
In the afternoon, we drive back towards Oslo. We pass Drammen, the 5th largest town in Norway, and a viewpoint called Spiralen, an engineering masterpiece. The road was formed in the middle of a mountain and descends through 13 spiral curves. At the top of Spiralen the viewpoint offers spectacular panoramas of the Drammensfjord and surrounding area. It’s the perfect spot for photos before we descend through the mountain and drive back to Oslo.
Day 14 • Departure from Oslo
After a leisurely breakfast, we check out of the hotel. It is time to say goodbye to your fellow travelers. Depending on your plans, you might have some additional time to continue your visit of the city before getting back to Kastrup Airport for your departure. Or you may have other plans such as visiting the area, staying in Oslo for another few days or continuing on to your next European destination.
Whatever your plans are, we are here to assist you with further accommodations and our accessible van will take you to wherever you need to be.
