The travel industry was worth over 5 trillion USD in 2017, which goes to show that people are traveling now more than ever. And there are many benefits to giving into that travel bug, including gaining new perspectives, meeting new people and trying new foods.

We believe everyone should be able to travel the world. However, there are some additional barriers that people with disabilities need to think about before they set off on their next adventure. Accessibility varies from place to place as do each individual’s personal needs. Tapooz Travel is an accessible travel company and we aim to make sure that the world of travel is open to people of all abilities. We plan group trips and customized individual trips destinations worldwide.

Transportation

Streets around the world can be steep and lined with cobblestone which can make it difficult to get around in a wheelchair. Public transportation can be crowded or lack elevators. During our trips, we arrange transportation in wheelchair accessible vehicles with a private driver that will help get you to your destination comfortably and safely. We also arrange airport pick up for when you arrive after a long journey.

Local Partners

We work with partners around the world that specialize in accessible travel in their respective countries. They are knowledgeable about their cultures, know the best wheelchair accessible activities and restaurants, and help us navigate the language barrier. Collaboration with our partners help us provide the most optimal experiences for our travelers.

Hotel Accommodations

Making sure you have an accessible and safe place to stay while traveling is one of our top priorities. We stay in superior class quality hotels that are equivalent to 4 stars in the US and that have welcoming and accommodating staff. We very carefully select hotels for their overall comfort, accessible rooms and location. We visit each hotel to ensure it meets our standard before booking them for any of our travelers.

Accessible Itineraries

Before we take travelers to a new destination we do extensive research about the respective city in order to plan the best itinerary possible. We scope out all the places we plan to visit to make sure they are easy to get into, spacious enough to maneuver and have wheelchair accessible bathrooms. We worry about accessibility so you can relax and enjoy your trip!

Mobility Equipment

We have portable ramps on all of our trips in case we encounter an unexpected curb or step. In almost all the destinations we operate, we are able to provide most of the equipment that our guests are used to at home.

Equipment includes:

  • wheelchairs

  • mobility scooters

  • electric medical beds

  • hydraulic or motorized lifts

  • shower and commode chairs

Memphis, here we come!

In about a week time, we will be welcoming a group of travelers from France for a trip to the South of the US. This group of about 20 people (about half are wheelchair users) comes to us via our long-standing relationship with APF, one of the leading and largest European organizations serving the community of people with mobility limitations. This is the fifth year that APF is partnering with Tapooz to organize accessible trips to the US and Canada.

First, we will spend a few days in Memphis, the birthplace of the Blues and (by some accounts) the undisputed capital of the BBQ. A road trip through Mississippi, closely following the mighty river, will take us to fascinating sites and towns such as Indianola, Vicksburg and Natchez where will we get a deep understanding of the culture and the history of the region. Finally, we will settle for a few days in the vibrant city New Orleans, the “Big Easy”. We will explore the Cajun and Creole cultures of this multi-faceted city and go out for daily expeditions to visit a plantation and hike in the bayous (on wheelchair accessible boardwalk of course). Stay tuned for stories and pictures of this exciting trip.
